Subaru Exiga

The Subaru Exiga is a new large MPV that debuted as a concept car during the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. According to the Japanese Subaru press introduction materials, the name "Exiga" is a neologism combination of the words "exciting" and "active". The vehicle boasts a supersize panoramic glass roof and theater-style seating, with rear passengers sitting a little higher than those in front. Seats in the concept vehicle were upholstered in leather and trimmed in pearl white and blue. The rear seatbacks incorporate fold-down tray tables, similar to those on airplanes.

The instrument panel in the concept vehicle offered displays from eight monitors, providing excellent visibility around the vehicle, and also housed a clear blue multi-display zone. There continues to be indirect lighting in the side doors and ceiling in the production vehicle, providing soft ambient light at night. The engine is a 1994 cc turbocharged H4 based on the Subaru Impreza WRX coupled to Subaru's 5EAT automatic transmission used in the Subaru Legacy and Subaru Tribeca.

According to an article from Autoblog , Subaru is planning to introduce a seven seat wagon in the Japanese market June 18, 2008. The Subaru Exiga isn't sold in North America, opting to sell the similarly-sized Subaru Tribeca 7-seater instead. The Australian version will be powered by a revised version of Subaru’s naturally aspirated four-cylinder 2.5-litre Boxer engine. That engine will make its debut on the new Liberty/Outback range in September.

Subaru spokesman David Rowley says diesel and turbocharged versions of the people-mover are not on the cards at this stage, although the maker will “watch with interest” the sales performance of the diesel Outback due in November. The Exiga is available with a turbocharged four-cylinder in Japan. The Exiga will be available in two trim levels, with the base model getting a standard DVD entertainment system for its second and third row seats. Subaru is not revealing any more details at this stage, although the second row of seats will be “captain’s chairs” with individual armrests and a centre console with cup holders. The third row seats can be stowed away. Rowley says the six-seat layout provides a point of difference to other people-movers, which typically have seven or eight seats.

Toyota FT-86 Concept definitely looks cool.Toyota sports car concept

Toyota FT-86 Concept definitely looks cool.

The concept car Toyota FT-86 (that’s hachi roku in Japanese) goes back to the fundamental qualities of the classic sports car with its rear-wheel drive configuration, compact dimensions, low centre of gravity and lightweight construction. Under the bonnet there is a 2.0-litre boxer engine that is strong on both performance and environmental quality
Great to own and fun-to-drive: those are the guiding principles behind a new Toyota sports car concept that will break cover for the first time at the Tokyo motor show later this month.
The show car’s bodywork is finished in Flash Red, an eye-catching shade that contains a hint of blue. Inside, the cabin design further expresses the car’s classic sporting qualities with many of the structural elements left uncovered.

SRS Aerokit SpeedART The Sports Car Porsche Cayman a Sporty and Elegant.

2009 SRS Aerokit SpeedART Porsche Cayman

SRS Aerokit SpeedART The Sports Car Porsche Cayman a Sporty and Elegant.
The SRS Aerokit from the German tuning firm SpeedART is a subtle and stylish way to spruce up the Porsche Cayman or Cayman S.
Unlike many bodykits which radically alter the appearance and persona of the car - sometimes for the good, but all to often for the bad - the SRS Aerokit is extremley in tune with the overall shape of the Cayman. The aerodynamic modifications include a 3-piece front chin spoiler - which provides additional downforce over the front axle, new deeper sideskirts, and an adjustable rear spoiler which has a distinct racing look to it. SpeedART have certainly taken the 'less is more' approach to design, and it's paid off.
A newly-enlarged 2.9-litre flat-six engine develops 255 bhp in the Boxster and 265 bhp in the Cayman, an increase of 10 and, respectively, 20 bhp over preceding models. The 3.4-litre power unit in the S versions, benefiting from Direct Fuel Injection, now delivers 310 bhp in the Boxster S and 320 bhp in the Cayman S, up by 15 and 25 bhp.
2009 SRS Aerokit SpeedART Porsche Cayman

The new Boxster and Cayman are significantly more fuel-efficient than their predecessors. The new 2.9-litre Boxer engine sips 8.9 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (combined) – 11 per cent less than the former models with Tiptronic S. Reducing fuel consumption by 16 per cent to 9.2 litres/100 kilometres, the 3.4-litre versions with PDK offer an even greater saving.
For the first time, both models are available with a Lights Package featuring bi-xenon headlights, dynamic curve lights and LED daytime driving lights. Replacing the foglamps, these light units are made of four LEDs positioned next to one another on the Boxster, while on the Cayman four LEDs are arranged in round light units like the eyes of a dice.
The Boxster and Cayman are available for the first time with the seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, or PDK, which replaces the former Tiptronic S. Equipped with this double-clutch gearbox, the roadster and coupé accelerate to 100 km/h 0.1 seconds faster than with the six-speed manual fitted as standard on all models.
2009 SRS Aerokit SpeedART Porsche Cayman

PDK cars’ acceleration is even more dynamic with one of the optional Sports Chrono Packages featuring Launch Control for maximum acceleration from a standing start, while the Race Track Gearshift Strategy offers the fastest possible shifting on the track. With Launch Control, the respective models accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h another 0.2 seconds faster. (For instance, the Cayman S with PDK and Launch Control accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the base Boxster with its new six-speed manual gearbox completes the same exercise in 5.9 seconds.)A new suspension set-up gives the new models a combination of even greater driving dynamics and enhanced comfort. Steering forces have been further reduced, giving the Boxster and Cayman even more agile and spontaneous steering behaviour.
2009 SRS Aerokit SpeedART Porsche Cayman

The wheels come in new designs and are half an inch wider on the Boxster and Cayman than in the past in order to accommodate the larger brake system from the S models on the front axle. All Boxster and Cayman models feature the latest generation of Porsche Stability Management (PSM), with two additional functions: Brake Pre-Loading and Brake Assistant.
2009 SRS Aerokit SpeedART Porsche Cayman

Whenever the driver lets go of the gas pedal very quickly – which is typical of an upcoming emergency braking manoeuvre – the PSM control unit builds up an appropriate level of pressure on the brakes before the driver even presses down the brake pedal, moving the brake pads slightly towards the discs, which significantly improves brake response and shortens stopping distances accordingly.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Sports sedan to debut at NAIAS

I know what your first question is, and the answer is yes: this is the model that will base the 10th generation EVO. But although we'll have to wait till October to see the new EVO, the "base" Lancer will make its official debut at the North American Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit (January 7).
Since it's a bit early for a full presentation, Mitsubishi decided to give us a teaser image of the next generation Lancer which leaves its predecessors "box on 4wheels" looks to rest in peace. As anticipated, the new Lancer which is based on Mitsubishi's first ever global platform (previewed in the second generation Outlander) sedan shares its design language with the Mitsubishi Design Europe-penned 2005 Concept-X and Concept-Sportback show cars.
According to Mitsubishi, the Lancer Sports Sedan will be launched progressively in world markets from Spring 2007 (North America gets it first). In Europe the Lancer Sport Sedan's basic version will be equipped with a 110Hp 1,5 litre engine. Later on (early 2008) we'll see a sportier 5door hatch version based on the Concept-Sportback (see picture) which will compete with C-Segment models like the VW Golf & Ford Focus.

But the best part is that the 5door hatch will also be available in a CZT guise equipped with a detuned version of the upcoming EVO's 2.0 Turbo engine producing about 220-240Hp. Mazda3 MPS's, VW Golf GTI's and Honda Type's better watch out cause a new kid is coming on the block...

Cadillac showcases new SLS at Auto China 2006

At this year's international motor show in Beijing "Auto China 2006", Shanghai GM is showcasing its newest addition to its Chinese Cadillac line-up, the SLS. Looks familiar? Your right cause its nothing more than a long wheel based STS. To be exact, the SLS has been lengthened by 100mm to add rear seat legroom which is a common practice from luxury makers that enter the Chinese market.
BMW did the same with the Chinese version of the 5 Series so as to meet specific local needs in this primarily chauffeur-driven luxury segment. Three engine options will be available which include the 2.8L V6, a 3.6L V6 and the top-level Northstar 4.6L V8 with 239kW/320hp. The new SLS will be built at the Shanghai GM plant for the Chinese market

2007 Mitsubishi Outlander European version

presentation of the Outlander concept in Paris that previewed the European version of Mitsubishi's mid-size SUV we have the first official production pics. In terms of differences between the US and the Euro model, apart from the better-looking mask, there are none. Same goes for the interior which was left unchanged. As for the engine range, the European edition will receive a 140Hp VW 2.0 turbo-diesel and two petrol motors, a 4cylinder and a V6. Sales will start in Europe in the spring of 2007. We'll have more info on the Euro-Outlander later on.

Mercedes-Benz Ends Talks With Fiat Group

According to a report from German car magazine Auto Motor Und Sport, Mercedes-Benz has ended talks with Fiat about a possible partnership between the two groups in concern of platform sharing due to the fact that MB didn’t find any cost advantages. A Mercedes-Benz manager told the magazine that the Italian carmaker produces its small models more expensively than they do. Although Mercedes-Benz is still in talks with BMW for a possible cooperation in terms of platform sharing for the new A and B-Class front-wheel drive models, if everything fails, the German carmaker will go ahead and develop the platforms alone.

Motortrend Pits The Lancer EVO X Against The EVO IX

Even before anyone drove the all-new Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X, there was plenty of criticism from EVO fans that the new iteration of the model was not only heavier but also more civilized than its predecessor. Motortend magazine decided to pit the two versions against each other to see whether the EVO fans were right or not.
Here’s what Motortrends senior editor Ed Loh had to say about it after testing both cars: “The clarity and rawness of the IX has been smoothed over in the X, with no replacement in terms of excitement. Though the X may be more proper and polished when it speaks to you, the IX tells better stories.” Check out the full story by clicking the link below.

Mercedes-Benz SL Facelift vs Opel GT Front-End Design

We’ve already told you about the shocking resemblance between the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL’s Airscarf seats and… E.T. (see here); time to tell you about something else that has been rolling around our mind. Doesn’t the new SL’s revised front-end design with the single bar grille remind you a lot of the Saturn Sky’s European brother, the Opel GT? We certainly think so!
